and the history of KSPI
The
korea statistics promotion institute was established in March
20, 1963, with the purpose of research on statistics,
diffusion of expert knowledge by a person of practical
affairs, and friendship among the statisticians.

3. Business of Research
(1) Research of Statistics
With advanced statistical theories and methods,
KSPI makes researches in statistical developments,
collects and stores various statistical data and performs
statistical research service. Also, the results
of researches are released through the Korea National
Statistical Office, reports on researches, symposiums
and seminars.
(2) Survey of Statistics
Using much experience of actual inspection
know-how by planning personnel of statistical survey
and highly trained investigator, statistical data are
obtained by various surveys, which are then offered
to users who consigned to KSPI.
(3) Statistical Data Bank
KSPI encourages the multilateral use of
statistical data. It is an agency for public welfare
of Korea
National Statistical office for offering statistical
data, which are stored in CD-ROM or e-mail to offer
consumers of both the inside and outside of the country
in moderate price. The data include statistics
of population, labor , industry , health , international
statistics, etc ,which belongs to Korea National
Statistical Office. KSPI is providing statistical information
services for public welfare at present and is
offering annual data to five value-added communication
service companies periodically.
(4) Dissemination of Statistical
publications
Korea National Statistical Office, Ministry
of Government Administration and Home Affairs, Ministry
of
Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Labor, the Bank
of Korea, etc issue fifty kinds of major
statistical publications. KSPI offers these to users
by consignment or reprinting and publication. Our
membership organization receives the relevant fields
for nothing.
(5) Management for social survey
analyst
As society develops, becoming more complicated
and diversified, it needs cultivation of experts who
are able to collect and analyze the knowledge and the
information about every social phenomenons to
produce and manage the data of superior statistical
survey. Thus, KSPI has performed in affairs of
management for social survey analysts, who are produced
by the state examination since 2000.
(6) Consulting about Statistics
KSPI counsels and responds to requests for
advice on the wide range of statistics that covers the
process of performance for statistical affairs of institutions,
analysis and evaluations for the results,
and the facts of use on statistical information.
(7) Statistical study and training
KSPI and Statistical Training Institute is
educating statistical technologies for statisticians,
in charge
of public institutions and private organizations. KSPI
acts as an agent for educational training abroad
programme, as it sends the board and the staff of membership
organization of KSPI to ISI general
meeting, which are held every two years.
(8) Issue of Statistical Journal
KSPI issues a journal of statistical research
"The Statistics," twice a year. Also, KSPI helps to
exchange statistical information and to cooperate business
among every government body and private
institutions of preparing statistics, research organization,
organization of use, and related statisticians.
KSPI strengthens the promotion and ties of friendship
and makes efforts to improve the value of
statistics.
4. Fundamental Principles
of KSPI Activities
(1) Research activities operated by the principle of
impartiality and non-profit.
(2) Development and propagation of statistical theory
ranging to the general phases of statistics.
(3) Research activities for cost minimizing in preparation
of statistics and in production of statistical materials
quickly and timely.
(4) Study and review for the production of basic materials
required to programme planning for the high level of
economic growth and the stabilization of national income.
(5) Fostering statisticians to be devoted themselves
only to this field of statistics and activities for
welfare and upgrading of statisticians.
